PGMA will not only grace the opening of the 29th Masskara Festival, but will also officially declare the opening of the festivities at the New Government Center. The theme for this year’s Masskara is “Bacolod, City of the World”. This will be the first time in 29 years that the president will grace the opening of the City of Smile's Masskara Festival.

Festivals are a good way of promoting tourism. By opening the festival, I think the PGMA is telling people that the Philippines has a rich cultural tradition.
